Our Story

The generational ideas of this centre can partially and mainly be dated way back to the preceding years of 2015, when Mr Robert Kabuye started evolving a sparking idea within himself. At its birth, was his love for Music and its conservation, but also helping an African youth in the community area and its surroundings, to get skilled for a better future. He having ushered into a community search and having realized a good number of seemingly talented but unaided youths, who among other factors faced poverty as a hampering factor for a better future, shared in his later encounters with Matthias Edler von Pollak, his personal Germany colleague and the chairman of Tonkünstlerverband Passau. This earned him support for the implementation of the idea. Preliminaries were done and Nkozi Catholic Parish premises were resolved to kick off the implementations, though with a later dream of constructing better facilities at Mpigi, where Robert himself had previously acquired personal land.

As a Christian believer, Robert entrusted the entire project unto the intercession and patronage of St. Padre Pio a modern saint he had grown blissful trust and love; hence the name “St. Padre Pio Youth Initiative”.

The two colleagues off the ground (Robert on Music studies in Germany), entrusted the daily ground run of the work to Simon Peter Ssekyanzi a catholic priest incardinated in the Archdiocese of Kampala, and a team of other members on the executive. Attempts went by, but not without challenges majorly on the fact that the targeted beneficiaries hardly met any monetary demands even for the availed services. This contributed to the slow progress, but also a realization that some of the targeted youths expressed their talents and desires in fields other than Music.

In this struggle, the efforts of Matthias Edler von Pollak and colleagues in Germany must be commended for the continuity of the project. Having scrutinized the fact of skills other than Music, an additional concept to the earlier formation developed in pursuit of establishing a technical and vocational training centre to accommodate a wider spectrum of skills execution.
